National Cocktail Day? Fine okay, I'll put something together.




For all you that know, today is National Cocktail Day.

For all of you who don't know, today is National Cocktail Day. 

My point being, that today is really just the awesome-est day there is. 

I had no idea what I wanted to make for such an occasion. Since today is not only this special day, but also Thirsty Thursday and the ever-so-trending, Throwback Thursday. I was torn with wanting to do a throwback cocktail or something we can just pound back after work for bottomless hours. I think I landed on a happy medium for myself after thinking about what this day means to me. It got me reminiscing on all those spirits that were the base of some memorable cocktails, the ones with reliable love and endless possibilities of creativity. Just then! The blistering heat started pounding on my apartment door and filled my living room, like a deathtrap. Leaving me a melting disaster. Of course, my instant reaction for a solution (ignoring the fan plugged to the wall on my right) only a cooling cocktail could make my space a happy and comfortable place again. 

And as luck would have it, I just got my hands on my favorite cachacas, Novo Fogo (that apparently, has been impossible for me to find). A beautiful spirit that's delightful in every way, and one I love mixing with. Thus, the creation began and the smile returned to my face.  So here you have it, "Teleportation." Let this cocktail take you to a happier you. Since my last cocktail was about travel, I thought I'd keep the theme going. With this mixture of silver cachaca, orange, blackcurrant and lime--I can say my National Cocktail Day is off to a good start.

Let's concoct:

  • 2 oz Novo Fogo Cachacas
  • 0.5 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 0.5 oz Lime
  • 0.25 oz Agave
  • 0.25 oz Creme de Cassis

*Muddle limes. Add cachacas and orange, shake with ce. Strain into a rocks glass with crushed ice. Float Creme de Cassis on top and garnish with a lime wheel.
