You know when you're just not quite ready for vacation to be over?
I welcome to Tiki-ness.
A world of escapism.
I'm totally on that one boat right now that's just not quite ready to come into shore. Like, "Oh, what I 'accidentally' missed my flight? Goddamn it. Fine. I'll stay. Twist my arm, I'll just lay here on the beach until the next one shows up...Ugh. So rough." Ah, If only...
Backstory: I just returned from Hawaii.
Back-back story: I've been wanting to invest some creativity and time into all the greatness that lies with Tiki drinks. I've been on the merry search to fill Bar De Bex with the necessities for this, and now I've finally arrived. And with this timing? I'm even more inspired to dive into it, now having some of that island jazz flow through my veins.
I welcome you to a month of Tiki-ness.
A world of escapism.
For those who didn't get a chance to hit that dreamy destination, who are instantly reminiscing the ones they just returned from, or who just love all that is tiki, awesomely themed bars, vibrant colors, the spectrum of juicy fruit, and that pool side lifestyle in the sun...well...hey there. How you doin' good looking? Can I shake things up for you?
Tiki drinks may just seem like funny cocktails to some, but there's a history behind them and there's a reason why we love them. Many bartenders will say some of their favorite cocktails lie in this world. The possibilities are endless, they make people happy, they're full of flavor, creativity, complexity, and let's not forget, they're pretty damn fun.
So...yeah. Let's take this and run with it? I'm dedicating Bar De Bex's month of September to this tropical endeavor. Let's explore flavors, bring in the quirkiness, and have a good time. So to conclude this passage here, I give you "Skipped Flight." Take a moment and give yourself some extra time to just chill out, brah. Close your eyes and take a sip of this splashy throwback to a carefree time. Dare to dream what it'd like to have just one more day in paradise. (Rum is going to be our best friend this month, so you might want to stock up if you want to play along.) Here we have a silver rum, orange, pineapple, and falernum. Fruity and...maybe a little strong? Eh...totally okay with it.
- 1.5 oz Silver Rum
- 0.5 oz Orange Liqueur
- 0.5 oz Velvet Falernum
- 1.5 oz Pineapple
*Shake ingredients with. Grab a tall tiki mug! (Or you know, whatever highball glass you have...I just got some new ones so I'm excited...) Strain over fresh crushed ice. Top with more crushed ice. Garnish how you please, I did an umbrella and a pineapple slice.
